Are you ready for a new start in your relationships? This New Moon is extra fiery and means some serious business! With Mercury retrograde in Libra, the sign of relationships, transformative Pluto stationing direct in Capricorn, the sign of power and authority, and support from down-to-earth Saturn, the planet of karma (also preparing to station direct), the tangled Libra New Moon opens up a new chapter in the way we compromise, use our power, and negotiate boundaries in our connections. October greets us with the Libra New Moon on the 6th. This is a portal that is taking us on a path leading to greater balance and understanding of the ‘other’. Of course in truth there is no other, but this is the path of coming to that realization (in time and over many lives). This is a time to laying intentions that you wish to birth into this world with the Libra Full Moon on the 6th of April 2023. It’s a long 18 months cycle in which this is a ‘kick-off’ of sorts, calling for you to find balance and that place within you that can honor the divine destiny that is at play.
New Moons are all about fresh beginnings, but with Mercury retrograde in the mix, old conflicts, disputes, or failed negotiations are resurfacing, challenging us to find creative solutions. Pluto, the planet of sex, power, secrets, and transformation, stationing direct can make us feel like we’ve just woken up from a long sleep and we’re becoming increasingly aware of the power imbalances and the emotional depths that have been present in our lives until now. There’s something fated and profoundly transformative in the energy of this New Moon, supporting us to separate from what no longer serves us on the new journey ahead.
In the worst-case scenario, we could be dealing with obsession, jealousy, inequality, or power plays or going through intense events that deconstruct what we previously knew about relationships. In the best-case scenario, we’re ready to deepen intimacy with a partner or with our own lights and shadows, bringing more awareness, passion, and confidence in the mix. Whatever is starting now in our relationships bears the mark of depth and transformation, supporting us to face our shadows and to honor our desires. Issues linked to fairness, equality, and justice are at the forefront of our personal and collective consciousness at this time. The Moon’s exact conjunction with passionate Mars makes this a time for taking action, defending our values, and fighting for equality, whether we’re choosing to join a protest, to state our needs more clearly with a partner, or to invest more in the relationships that make us feel seen, supported, and respected.
If tempers flare at this time, it’s only because issues that we’ve previously swept under the rug are now impossible to ignore. If we’ve been playing small because we were afraid of conflict or loss of approval from others, this New Moon is a great time to speak our truth, to say “no” when needed, and to work toward mutually beneficial agreements in our relationships. Libra is the sign of “us”, but fiery Mars is here to remind us that we need to define ourselves and to take care of our well-being in order to function well within a partnership of any kind. Giving away our power is no longer sustainable.
This new moon in particular provides us with the opportunity to begin new habits and rituals dedicated to understanding and deepening partnerships. What’s more, since so many planets are still retrograde (Mercury, Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter, Neptune and Uranus), the call to look within for insight on advancing our connections with others is even more urgent. Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury will all change direction in October. Pluto is the first to move direct and starts this change on the day of the New Moon in Libra, providing us with the first of many boosts from the universe supporting anything we decide to start now.
Take some time to meditate on the goals you wish to manifest over the next six months. What relationships would you like to see healed? What relationships are necessary for you to let go of to create room for ones that are more fulfilling? What elements of your relationships with others would you like to improve? What practices could you put into place to secure the foundation of these relationships? Is the balance of power within your relationships where it needs to be? And finally, how can communication be improved on your end?
Some of us could reignite the spark with an ex, find the motivation to resume a project we’ve abandoned in the past, or discuss the terms of an existing contract. Stay mindful of what is worth saving from your past… and what is better left behind.
Pluto stations direct in Capricorn on October 4, 2020 at 9:33 am ET.
Whenever a planet goes direct it signifies turning the tables and turning over a new leaf. It can be a more intense time where we notice how circumstances are coming together to push us in a new direction. As an outer planet, Pluto in Capricorn speaks to larger, world affairs. Pluto is a revolutionary planet, but it’s process can be scary and shadowy. It digs so deep into the underbelly of reality that we end up seeing a lot of negative things most would rather avoid and not think about. For more positive perspectives in astrology we would look more toward the Sun and Venus. Jupiter is geared toward positivity as well, but being so close to Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn now, Jupiter’s blessings may be more disguised than usual.
Although Pluto in Capricorn is mostly about the bigger picture, for yourself personally this can be a time to consider what needs to change for you. What negativity do you need to purge out of your life so you can change for the better? This can be a time to prioritize new, different goals that can change your life.
Tiny but powerful Pluto, the planet of truth and transformation, goes direct on October 6, 2021, after five months in retrograde. When Pluto starts moving forward, all of our deepest desires and secrets will begin to surface.
While Pluto was retrograde, we were more inclined to turn inward and bury our deepest truths and wishes. But Pluto Direct is like a green light to confront the darkest parts of ourselves and others. If you’ve been reassessing relationships or other areas of your life during Pluto Retrograde, it’s now time to stop thinking about making those changes and truly take action. Be honest with yourself and others, and move forward from the dark to the light.
Pluto in Capricorn’s energy has been dormant during its six-month Retrograde stint since April 2020. And I don’t think we need to state twice what went down while this intense planet was direct! The past six months were a time to learn and uncover why certain changes occurred. Expansive Jupiter, reality-driven Saturn, and Pluto are all direct now and in what astrologers call a stellium, or a concentration of three or more planets.
And now ladies and gentlemen for a survival guide:
October 2021 Important Dates:
New Moon in Libra, October 6: A clean slate and a fresh start in our relationships.
Pluto Direct in Capricorn, October 6: Extreme transformation in career goals, life’s aspirations and the way we individually define success. Pluto — planet of creation and destruction — has been retrograde for the past few months. However, this planet will finally station direct on Oct. 6, bringing this retrograde to an end. As this retrograde runs its course, you may feel a renewed sense of control, inspiring you to stand up to those who attempt to dominate you and rethink the way you use your own power.
Venus Transit Sagittarius, October 7: Venus in the sign of the archer will inspire adventures and exploration. We may want to gain more knowledge and understand life on a deeper level.
Saturn Direct in Aquarius, October 10: Saturn retrograde will also come to an end this month. Think of Saturn retrograde as a break from the intensity so you can reassess your progress. Once Saturn stations direct on Oct. 10, you might have a better idea of what you need to work on and how you can be more responsible. Reformation in a responsible manner. However, once Jupiter retrograde is over, you may feel
Neptune: June 25-December 1: There’s no planet that’s more confusing and dizzying than Neptune. After all, Neptune is the planet of dreams, illusions, and fantasies, which means this planet has a proclivity for distorting the truth and clouding your judgment. However, when Neptune is retrograde, some of these fantasies and delusions may fade away ever so slightly. Neptune retrograde has a tendency to help you see things a little more clearly than you could before.
Chiron: July 15-December 19: Chiron is an asteroid that’s known as the “wounded healer,” which essentially means that Chiron points out your deepest wound, as well as your attempts to heal that wound. When Uranus is not retrograde, the shifts Uranus evokes are more expansive and external, rocking the world you live in. However, while Uranus is retrograde, it has a tendency to turn its energy inward, inspiring you to embrace a more personal and introspective form of rebellion. Uranus retrograde is a beautiful time to get to know how unique you really are.
Mercury Retrograde: Sept 27-Oct 18 The real kicker this month is Mercury retrograde. This infamous retrograde has the power to create a communication catastrophe, causing wires to cross, uncomfortable exchanges, and trips through the past.
