October’s full moon, nicknamed the Hunter’s Moon, on Oct. 28
 is about to be a spooktacular (sorry, had to say it) one because it will also take place during a lunar eclipse.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is sandwiched directly between the moon and the sun, causing the Earth to cast a shadow on the moon. This upcoming astronomical event is going to be a partial lunar eclipse, meaning only a portion of the Moon passes through the Earth’s umbral shadow. The partial lunar eclipse will begin at 3:36 p.m. ET, end at 4:53 p.m. ET.

October’s full moon is called Hunter’s Moon because it signals  the time to go hunting in preparation for the cold winter ahead.
